Natasha Perry, a Court of Protection lawyer at Reeds Solicitors in Oxford, has been shortlisted for a Legal Aid Lawyer of the Year Award (LALY). Perry, who is Senior Associate and Area Manager for the South of England at Reeds, is one of four finalists in the Legal Aid Newcomer category. The awards, now in their 24th year, are run by the Legal Aid Practitioners Group to recognise those working on the front line of social justice.
Natasha’s work centres on some of the most vulnerable people in the community, and colleagues describe her approach as meticulous and client focused, driven by a genuine commitment to protecting people’s rights.
Sarah Griffiths-Jones, Partner and Head of Court of Protection at Reeds, said the nomination was thoroughly deserved. “It reflects not only her exceptional legal ability, but also her unwavering commitment to her clients and upholding their legal rights,” she said. “At a time when legal aid work is in crisis, Natasha restores faith in its future.”
Reeds’ Managing Partner Jan Matthews echoed the sentiment, pointing to the wider pressures facing the sector. “With so many firms forced to abandon legal aid for our most vulnerable, I am extremely proud of our ongoing commitment to ensuring everyone has access to fair and equitable justice,” he said. “This nomination is testament to Natasha’s clear, unwavering commitment to fighting for a fair society.”
What is Court of Protection work?
Court of Protection lawyers act for people who lack the mental capacity to make certain decisions for themselves, whether through illness, injury, or disability. Their work covers areas such as managing finances and property, making decisions about care and medical treatment, and safeguarding individuals from abuse or exploitation. It is often unseen work, dealing with clients at some of the most difficult points in their lives, and increasingly falls into the category of legal aid provision that many firms have stepped back from as funding pressures have grown.
About the LALYs
The Legal Aid Lawyer of the Year Awards are organised by the Legal Aid Practitioners Group on a not for profit basis and have run for 24 years, making them one of the longest standing fixtures in the legal aid calendar. This year’s shortlist runs across the full range of legal aid practice, from housing and immigration to family and public law, and is judged by practitioners with direct experience of the sector. Winners will be announced at a ceremony in central London on 3rd July 2026.
