On Thursday 30th October, HYLL hotel will debut the first edition of its new monthly literary and arts Supper Club, an evening celebrating culture, creativity and conversation. The inaugural event will be hosted by the acclaimed author Jim O’Sullivan and founder and creator of Giffords Circus, Toti Gifford.
This marks the launch of an exciting new series, with each instalment spotlighting writers, artists and thinkers, bringing them together with like-minded individuals for intimate and inspiring dialogue over a three-course tasting menu and wine pairing. Curated by Head Chef Mark Coleman, the delectable dishes will be devised exclusively for the evening.
This month’s hosts are Jim, a Cheltenham based author, whose previous best-selling book The Steam Catcher is a wartime story of a stunt motorcyclist who falls under the spell of a beautiful bank robber. This month, Jim has released his new novel One Life A Thousand Souls, a story written in Twelfth Century Italy about a disgraced angel, devastated by the guilt of consuming the soul of a young mother.
Jim will be joined by fellow host Toti Gifford, the founder and creator of the infamous Giffords Circus – a Cotswolds institution, popular annual event, that is making its Winter debut this year, with a magical Winter show throughout December at their farm in Stroud. A carpenter and landscaper by trade, Toti set up Giffords with his late wife Nell in 2000 and has played host to millions of guests ever since. More theatrical cabaret shows that now tours the UK, gypsy violinists, tap dancers, tight-rope walkers, trapeze artists, stunt riders, opera singers, magicians, illusionists & gymnasts have all inhabited Giffords Circus. The circus is known for its vintage set designs and artwork, which can be found on display throughout The Cotswolds.
After supper the diners will be invited to retire to one of the lounges to continue the evening: perhaps discovering the vinyl collection in the snug provided by Witney based Truck Records; relaxing with a book in the drawing room, courtesy of the in-house literary partner Borzoi in Stow-on-the-Wold; or immersing themselves in their complimentary copy of Jim O’Sullivan’s new book.
